About the Role
SkySafe is looking for a driven and self-motivated Installation Technician to join our growing team in San Diego, CA. This role is essential to the successful deployment of SkySafe’s advanced drone detection infrastructure and ensures installations are completed safely, accurately, and to the highest quality standards. As an Installation Technician, you will work hands-on with high-tech electronics and telecommunications systems, supporting field installations across a variety of environments. You will follow established procedures while contributing to continuous improvement efforts, helping SkySafe deliver reliable, real-world solutions that protect people, infrastructure, and airspace.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow department SOPs, work instructions, and SkySafe and customer standards for all installation activities
- Properly operate, maintain, and inspect equipment in accordance with established procedures
- Visually inspect product quality, troubleshoot issues, and escalate concerns when necessary
- Execute the full installation lifecycle, from initial setup through final inspection and troubleshooting
- Clearly communicate instructions and operational expectations to team members and on-site partners
- Perform periodic inspections to ensure quality standards are consistently met
- Complete all required documentation and training in a timely manner
- Assist in authoring, reviewing, and updating SOPs and work instructions as needed
- Support R&D engineering products and field testing efforts as requested
- Maintain a safe and clean work area, wear appropriate PPE, and adhere to all safety standards
- Ensure safety guidelines are followed by all team members during installations
- Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned installation areas or equipment
- Complete system installations, including hardware assembly and RF connections, on masts, rooftops, towers, and other infrastructure
- Perform rooftop and climbing work safely while following all applicable guidelines and procedures
- Lift, haul, and position heavy equipment at installation sites
- Create cable penetrations, pull cable, and troubleshoot electrical and network connections
- Troubleshoot unexpected installation issues using creative problem-solving and effective communication with internal teams and external partners
- Perform Part 107 drone operations in compliance with all FAA regulations
- Represent SkySafe professionally and maintain strong working relationships with partner entities
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Associate’s degree or technical certification preferred
- 2+ years of experience in a technician or field technician role
- Experience with outdoor electronics installation, such as telecommunications equipment, preferred
- Ability to deliver high-quality results in a low-volume, high-precision environment
- Strong ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to follow instructions, accept additional responsibilities, and continuously improve standard practices
- Excellent attention to detail with a strong focus on quality and safety
- Willingness to contribute wherever needed
- Ability to work at heights and in varied outdoor environments
- Strong organizational skills; schedule-oriented, dependable, and reliable
- Willingness to travel 50–75% as required by deployments
- Certifications or willingness to obtain certifications in MEWP, tower climbing, rigging, or related environments (SkySafe will fund required certifications)
- Experience working with RF systems, networking equipment, or sensor-based technologies
- Prior experience supporting R&D or pilot installations
- Complete onboarding, safety training, and installation certification requirements
- Become familiar with SkySafe’s equipment, SOPs, and installation workflows
- Support field installations alongside experienced team members
- Independently perform standard system installations and inspections
- Troubleshoot common installation issues and escalate complex problems appropriately
- Contribute feedback to improve SOPs and installation processes
- Serve as a trusted installer for complex or high-visibility deployments
- Act as a subject matter expert for specific equipment or installation environments
- Support R&D and new product deployments in field settings
- Lead installation efforts for select deployments or regions
- Mentor newer technicians on installation techniques and safety practices
- Play an active role in improving SkySafe’s installation standards and operational efficiency

This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by US export laws. In order to be eligible for this position, you must be a US person under US export laws or, eligible for approval for a U.S. Government export license. A US Person includes a US citizen, lawful Permanent Resident, refugee or asylee.
Compensation range $60,000 – $80,000
Travel Requirement: 50–75%
