About the Role
Small businesses are the backbone of the economy, yet too often they’re overlooked by traditional banks. At Novo, we’re changing that. Our mission is to give small business owners the financial tools they need to thrive—and credit is one of the most powerful levers to make it happen.
As Director of Credit Strategy & Analytics, you’ll take the helm of Novo’s credit product suite—leading the strategy behind the Novo Business Credit Card and Novo Funding. You’ll be responsible for the economics, underwriting, and portfolio strategies that fuel our growth while keeping our products resilient. This isn’t just about models and policies—it’s about building credit experiences that unlock opportunities for entrepreneurs.
You’ll guide a talented team of analysts, collaborate with world-class product managers and data scientists, and work hand-in-hand with Finance, Marketing, and Operations. You’ll also represent Novo with bank partners, funding providers, and the capital markets. In short: you’ll be the architect of how Novo responsibly scales credit for the millions of small businesses we serve.
What You’ll Do
Lead Novo’s credit strategy end-to-end, owning the performance, risk posture, and economics of our credit products.
Design and refine underwriting policies, credit models, and portfolio management frameworks that balance growth and resilience.
Spot opportunities for innovation—whether that’s launching new lending products, improving unit economics, or optimizing customer acquisition.
Partner with Product and Marketing to translate insights into strategies that shape roadmaps, campaigns, and capital allocation.
Build and mentor a high-performing analytics team, fostering a culture of ownership, creativity, and collaboration.
Represent Novo externally—helping to shape relationships with bank partners, capital markets, and vendors.Pilot bold new ideas, bringing them from concept (0) to launch (1), then scaling based on real-world data and customer feedback.
What We’re Looking For
8–12 years of experience in credit analytics, strategy, or risk management, with deep exposure to revolving and installment products.
Proven track record managing the economics and performance of a credit card or loan portfolio.
Hands-on expertise with credit model development, deployment, and monitoring.
Advanced SQL skills; Python strongly preferred.
Experience leading and developing analytical teams, with the ability to inspire and empower.
Exceptional communication skills—able to turn complex analysis into compelling stories that influence executives, partners, and customers.
Thrives in a fast-moving, high-growth environment where autonomy and resilience are key.
Bonus Points
Experience scaling a revolving credit product in a startup or high-growth fintech.
Familiarity with fintech–bank partnerships, capital markets, and funding structures.
Strategic judgment honed from navigating ambiguity and making tradeoffs in dynamic markets.
How Success Is Measured
Growth and profitability of Novo’s credit portfolio, delivered with a disciplined and resilient approach.
Successful launches of new strategies and products that expand access to small business credit.
Strong alignment across Product, Finance, Marketing, and Operations—and trusted partnerships with external stakeholders.
End-to-end ownership, values-driven leadership, and a relentless focus on helping small businesses win.
